Line Read: For those who are selected for the cast, the first line read of the play (and handing out scripts) will take place Wednesday, June 25, in the evening. 

 

SynopsisThis chilling mystery follows a small group of psychically-receptive people who are brought together in Hill House, a brooding mansion known as a place of evil. Led by a learned professor, the visitors have come to probe the secrets of the old house, but they soon find that Hill House has terrible plans of its own!

Warning:  periods of darkness, flashing lights, scary situations. 

 

When: Auditions will be held over three days: June 2-4, 2025.

 

What: We are seeking 7 enthusiastic performers for this thrilling show. No experience is required to audition. A segment of the play will be sent to you in advance to read for your audition. People from all backgrounds, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, sexual orientation or identity, or education are welcome and encouraged to apply. Cast Requirements:

Characters

               

Eleanor (Nell). Age 18 – 35. A troubled young woman. Previously served as her mother’s caretaker. She hopes her visit to Hill House will help her start a new life – but the house seems to have other ideas. Gentle, soft, afraid, and unsure. 
Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
 
Mrs. Dudley. Age 50 – 80. The housekeeper and cook at Hill House. She knows better than to stay at Hill House after dark. Rigid, blunt, fixated. 
Ethnicity: All Ethnicities
 
Theodora. Age 20 – 35. A young bohemian woman who comes to Hill House at the invitation of Dr. Montague. She is believed to have a psychic sensitivity which the doctor hopes will deepen his understanding of Hill House. Free, bold, and open.

Dr. Montague. Age 40 – 80. The professor holds a belief in parapsychology and is visiting Hill House to further his studies away from the judgmental eyes of his colleagues. He is protective of the people he has invited to Hill House but determined to learn its secrets. Intelligent, fatherly, and cautious.

Luke Sanderson. Age 25 – 35. A rakish young man who is a member of the family that owns Hill House. He is quick to make a joke and maintains a positive attitude throughout the events he encounters during the investigation. Charming, selfish, shallow.

Mrs. Montague. Age 35 – 80. She has her own ideas about the paranormal presence at Hill House and little regard for her husband’s methods or companions. Loud, dominant and overpowering, in great contrast to her husband.

Arthur. Age 35 -65. Mrs. Montague’s companion and assistant in her psychic endeavors. An intense person who only listens to Mrs. Montague. Loyal, meat-and-potatoes man who doesn’t drink, smoke, or read trash.
