Available roles:
Costume Designer – Conceives and develops the overall costume design for a production in consultation with the Director and Production Manager. Willingness to spend time researching appropriate costumes and fashion styles of the period of the play. You will play an integral role in the success of the production’s wardrobe.
Related Skills: Initiative, creative thinking, researching, design skills and understanding of colors and fabrics. Previous Costume Design or Costume Assistant experience an asset, though not required.
Costume Assistant – In collaboration with the Costume Creator, the Costume Assistant helps to modify and alter costumes for actors in the play based on the Costume Design. During the run of the production, the Costume Assistant ensures the placing of costumes correctly backstage, may assist with fast costume changes, solving costume emergencies, and caring for and cleaning the costumes. You will play an integral role in the success of the production’s wardrobe.
Related Skills: Initiative, good people skills, dexterity, understanding of colors and fabrics, sewing and alteration skills.
Lighting Designer – Creates and implements a lighting design to advance the Set Designer’s plan, and to achieve the Director’s vision of the play. Building a visual atmosphere that brings a production to life is fulfilling and creative activity, with plenty of opportunities to interact with the Director and other Designers.
Related Traits: Initiative, research, solid working knowledge of theories and practice of stage lighting design. Previous Lighting Design or Lighting Technician experience is an asset, though not required.
Lighting and Sound Technicians (two separate positions) – operate the lighting and sound boards during onstage rehearsals and the run of the production as instructed by the Stage Manager. No prior experience is required – training is provided by the relevant Designer, Stage Manager, and Director. These roles are a great opportunity to learn and practice technical skills, and can lead to taking on design roles in future productions.
Related Traits: Willingness to learn, ability to take on responsibility for performances, and commitment of required time. Being “tech savvy” is a bonus.
Props Sourcing – Find and/or create required props, furniture, and or set dressings. Working with Props can be a fantastic outlet for creative energy and is a critical part of the team.
Related Traits: Research/knowledge of era specific trends (furniture, kitchenware, accessories, etc.), creative thinking, capacity to find/make props, people skills, organization skills, bargain hunting and thrifting.
Props Crew – Ensure that all props are in-place and maintained for rehearsals and performances and develop a complete props inventory. Working with Props can be a fantastic outlet for creative energy and is a critical part of the team. May also be a member of Stage Crew.
Related Traits: people skills, organization skills, reliability and focus before during and after the show, follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Stage Crew – Moving sets and/or furniture between acts or scenes. Crew may move walls, screens, furniture, and set pieces in and out as needed. Props crew sometimes double as stage crew. Ensures that props are where they need to be for the actors’ use during the performance. Great opportunity to work closely with fellow stage crew members, Director, actors, and production crew.
Related Traits: Strength specific to moving and lifting furniture and set pieces, ability to follow instructions quickly and accurately at each performance, consistency and efficiency, reliability, calmness, problem-solving skills, and people skills.
Makeup/Hair Assistant – Assist the Makeup team with the design, instruction and/or application of makeup and/or hair styling to the actors to present the “look” of the characters they are portraying. Meet and discuss with each cast member their makeup requirements and any allergies. Enjoy being part of the camaraderie of working with the actors before and potentially during performances.
Related Traits: An interest in theatrical makeup and/or hair design, good visual colour perception, deductive reasoning, creatively solving problems, patience and tact, ability to work under pressure, attention to detail. Beautician training is an asset though not required.
Set Building – We have the materials and the tools, but we could use another helping hand to assist in building the set.
Related Traits: handy, carpentry experience, knowledge of safety protocols related to tools and building, works well in a team.
Front of House – The main point of contact with the audience members during performances. Leading a team of volunteers, you cordially receive patrons and direct them within the theatre, answering all questions with courtesy. Arrange scheduling and coverage for a team of ushers and box office volunteers.
Related Traits: Congeniality and good manners, excellent communication skills, organizational skills, adequate fitness levels in order to stand for more than one hour and walk up staircase repeatedly; CPR and First Aid training are an asset.
VIP Experience Manager – The main point of contact with the VIP Restaurant and any other VIP partners, the VIP Experience Manager coordinates the this exclusive event and ensures the VIPs have a wonderful time.
Space Optimization Consultant – We have stuff. We have space. But we could use the space better for our prop, costume, and set storage. Are you a space organization wizard? We need your advice!
Related traits: organization, spatial visualization, familiar with shelving / closet / shed space maximizing techniques, options, tools, and equipment.
